Regents give approval for OSU to move forward with design and construction of new Spears School of Business Building

Friday, April 26, 2013

The OSU/A&M Board of Regents today gave approval for Oklahoma State University to begin the selection process to choose an architect and construction manager for the new Spears School of Business Building.

The college has been housed in the same building for nearly 50 years and the current facility has become inadequate for the present and future needs of the college and its departments.

The proposed 200,000-square foot facility will double the size of the current space and will include two auditoriums, meeting rooms for collaborative group work, incubators to facilitate entrepreneurship and gathering rooms to encourage cross-disciplinary interaction among faculty and students.

“We need a facility that will attract the best student and faculty minds and I anticipate this new facility will be a magnet that draws together people from across the campus to dialogue about business, entrepreneurship, economics, law and policy issues,” said Larry Crosby, dean of the OSU Spears School of Business.

Funds for the construction will be raised through the OSU Branding Success $1 billion campaign. Currently more than $28 million has been raised for the project because of the generosity of many individuals, foundations and corporations including a $5 million gift from Chesapeake Energy Corporation for the Chesapeake Energy Student Success Center.

In July of 2010, OSU Regents selected Frankfurt-Short-Bruza (FSB), Oklahoma City, with Perkins+Will, Inc., Minneapolis, to create a plan for the future facility.  More information and renderings of proposed facility can be found at http://spears.okstate.edu/news/2011/10/07/osu-announces-new-building-to-serve-all-business-students/.
