Rossi, the Approval poodle, coming to OSU

Meet Rossi, the Approval poodle, and her owner Judy Savage on Thursday Jan. 31, from 1 – 2 p.m. at the Reboot Center, room 320W of the Student Union, and from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at McElroy Hall. Free autographed books about Rossi will be distributed at McElroy Hall while supplies last.

Savage, a landscape designer in Oklahoma City when she’s not volunteering with Rossi, talked often about the lessons that the poodle was teaching her. She watched sick patients perk up when Rossi put her head on their laps or when they petted her soft fur. She saw children who were reluctant readers happily read out loud to Rossi.

As Savage kept talking about the dog and as people kept wanting to hear more, she realized she was onto something.  And then, one day, her 4-year-old granddaughter, Jane Marie, immediately stopped acting up when she realized that her behavior mattered to Rossi. That day, “The Approval Poodle” was created with Rossi, the dog who approves of good behavior. "I realized that Rossi was a type of mentor to my grandchildren and that this Black Standard Poodle could be one to others as well,” Savage said.

The newly published book by Judy Savage contains 36 pages of photographs and designs featuring Rossi and friends demonstrating the rules she lives by and approves.
