Stillwater receives award during Special Olympics at OSU
Stillwater Mayor John Bartley accepted the 2013 Mike Synar Award on behalf the City of Stillwater at the 44th Annual Special Olympics Oklahoma held at Oklahoma State University.
The City of Stillwater received the award as a result of continued support of Special Olympics Oklahoma. The award is presented to the corporation, business, association or entity that reflects Mike Synar's high level of commitment and support.
"City of Stillwater employees have done an excellent job with helping Special Olympics athletes stay safe and enjoy their time in Stillwater during the summer games," said Bartley.
City of Stillwater employees commit to working the barricades and streets during Special Olympics Oklahoma. This marks the 30th year the Special Olympics Oklahoma has been held in Stillwater.
City employees worked while athletes from across Oklahoma attended the summer Olympics to make this year a record setting year of 4,626 participating athletes and 1,570 coaches during the three day event.
Former Congressman Mike Synar was chairman of the Special Olympics Oklahoma corporate committee.
