Students to get look at STEM careers

Science booth hosts still needed

The 17th annual Women in Science Conference will be held Tuesday, March 4, at the Spirit Bank Event Center in Tulsa. More than 840 teachers and students from 61 schools across Oklahoma have registered to attend.

The goal of the conference is to show students in grades six through 12 that careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are exciting, attainable and rewarding.

The free, one-day event immerses students in numerous hands-on science activities, helps them discover pathways to STEM careers, and gives them opportunities to interact with college and university representatives from dozens of Oklahoma institutions.

During interactive panel sessions, students will learn firsthand about the many science-related professions available to them. Women in fields such as climatology, engineering, chemistry, zoology and medicine will talk to students about their respective careers.

Student and teacher registration for the event has reached maximum capacity, but space is still available for recruitment and hands-on science booth hosts. The deadline to register is Jan. 15 or when booth space is filled.
