A "culiminating experience" toward their degree
Twenty-four agricultural education seniors from Oklahoma State University recently began a 12-week student teaching program at agricultural education programs across Oklahoma and Texas.
The student teaching program allows the students to bridge the gap between teaching theory and practice. During the experience, the students will teach classes, be involved with FFA activities, and assist with supervised agricultural education experiences under the guidance of cooperating teachers from each host school.
“Student teaching is the culminating experience for preparing to become an agricultural educator,” said Jon Ramsey, OSU assistant professor of agricultural education and director of student teaching. “The time students spend in their cooperating centers provides real time experiences that are an important component of the induction of students into the teaching profession.”
Upon completion of the student teaching experience, the student teachers will return to OSU to earn bachelor of science degrees in agricultural science and natural resources with a major in agricultural education.
