Cambas recognized for work with Oklahoma businesses

Anthony Cambas

Anthony Cambas, with the Wes Watkins Center at Oklahoma State University, has been chosen to receive the State Star award from the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center Network for his work to help small and medium sized businesses in the state.

“Cambas has been to almost every Small Business Development Center in the state of Oklahoma, providing service to entrepreneurs,” said Bill Carter, state director, Oklahoma SBDC. “He’s truly the expert’s expert at what he does.”

Cambas, who serves as director of the Wes Watkins Center for International Trade and Development and the International Trade Center - Small Business Development Center, said this award is important to him because it comes from the state director’s office and recognizes the impact that the OSU office is having on small businesses throughout the state. “It is an important recognition that focuses on the work we do on a day-to-day basis; not only the work on the ground, but our strategy to achieve effective networks within Oklahoma.”

Oklahoma has 16 Small Business Development Centers in the state and similar centers are found throughout the country, explained Cambas. “Each one has its own geographic or technical area of specialization, and ours (Oklahoma State University ITC-SBDC) is in international trade.”

Cambas will be recognized at the annual conference for America’s Small Business Development Centers September 9-12, in Grapevine, Texas, at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center.

A former U.S. Customs official who has been working in international trade and development for more than 25 years, Cambas received his undergraduate degree in international relations from Florida International University in Miami with a certificate in Latin American and Caribbean studies. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Canberra, Australia Centre for Customs and Excise Studies in International Customs Law and Administration and has undertaken post-graduate studies in Switzerland and in El Salvador.

OSU ITC-SBDC is an integral part of the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center (OKSBDC) network. OKSBDC assists small business owners and new entrepreneurs by providing no charge, quality and confidential one-on-one business management advising, business management workshops and business technical assistance.
