Cooper named Stratton Staff award recipient

Emily Cooper

Emily Cooper of Stillwater was recently named the 2014 Stratton Staff Award recipient for the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences.  Cooper, who has worked at the center’s Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) for the past 15 years, is the lab’s quality manager and development coordinator.

“Emily is directly responsible for ensuring that OADDL remains in full compliance with our quality system and meets all requirements of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD),” says Keith Bailey, DVM, PhD, DACVCP, interim director of OADDL. “She has brought us successfully through three AAVLD audits.  She has also for the first time given OADDL a presence at state and regional meetings and initiated an electronic newsletter.”

Established in 1989 upon the retirement of then Veterinary Medical Hospital director Dr. Louis Stratton, the Stratton Staff Award recognizes staff members for their service and contributions.  Nominations are accepted from veterinary center employees and selected by a committee appointed by the center’s dean, Dr. Jean Sander.

“I am honored to receive the Stratton Staff Award,” says Cooper.  “It means a lot to know my peers recognize my hard work and dedication toward advancements in diagnostic services.  I enjoy the new challenges and opportunities my job offers every day and interacting with professionals on all levels to make improvements to the quantity and quality of our services.”

The Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory provides diagnostic services for veterinarians and animal owners.  Through testing the lab strives to help reduce losses to animal diseases and parasites and reduce the incidence and threat of disease that are transmissible from animals to people and vice versa.
