Student leadership conference focuses on sustainability
Students will be challenged to focus their thoughts on sustainability concepts and leadership techniques during the E3 Leadership Summit March 28 and 29.
The E3 Leadership Summit will provide awareness of global environmental issues, particularly those that affect Oklahoma. The conference will demonstrate how changes in behaviors and choices will benefit students, student organizations and the community. Participants will focus on issues like environmental conservation, social responsibility, energy, community building, water usage and sustainable business models.
Students who attend the E3 Leadership Summit will participate in specific interest breakout sessions. Breakout sessions will be focused on the cultivation of sustainability dialogue. Students will learn to communicate how sustainability fits into everyone’s academic discipline and lifestyle. Interactive sessions will assist students in their communication and presentation of sustainability issues to different audiences.
Kassey Steele, Campus Life graduate teaching assistant and E3 Leadership Summit assistant vice chair, said the E3 Leadership Summit welcomes all students who wish to be leaders or want to enhance their leadership skills.
“We’re hoping students take what they learn back to their student leaders, their colleagues and anyone on campus,” Steele said. “Our theme is sustaining student leaders. It’s about asking ‘what can we learn here to sustain your group and enhance it?’”
Participants will also develop a sustainability implementation plan for their student organizations. This will allow students to expand their leadership skills by transitioning their sustainability knowledge into action.
Students interested in attending the E3 Leadership Summit can email Steele at kassey.steele@okstate.edu. The deadline to register for the E3 Leadership Summit is Friday, March 14. The E3 Leadership Summit will begin at 4 p.m. on March 28 and at 9 a.m. on March 29. There is a $15 registration fee that covers meals during the conference. Registration is capped at 100 students.
