HungerU encourages OSU students to fight world hunger

Exhibit offers tour Thursday and Friday.

The interactive HungerU exhibit will educate Oklahoma State University students about the hunger crisis on Thursday, April 17, and Friday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Lot 43 next to Ag Hall.

HungerU is a nonprofit organization that travels to university campuses to engage students in the hunger crisis conversation and encourage them to take action in their communities. The interactive mobile exhibit offers a tour to teaches students about the global hunger challenge and solutions to feed the world. The tour takes place in a 40’ x 40’ mobile education classroom with features such as large, flat-screen digital displays, interactive kiosks and pedal tractors.

“By 2050, the global population is expected to include more than two billion extra mouths to feed – that’s more than the current population of China, the United States, Indonesia and France together,” said Margie Alsbrook, director of operations for the nonprofit Farm Journal Foundation. “In the next 50 years, we will need to produce more food for the planet than over the past 10,000 years combined with fewer resources than before.”

In addition to the HungerU exhibit, OSU will host a meal packaging event on Tuesday, April 22, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Noble Research Center. CASNR Student Council will be packaging 10,000 meals with 80 volunteers.
