Stillwater Community Band concert series starts soon
The annual concert series featuring the Stillwater Community Band is returning to the City of Stillwater Community Center, 315 W. 8th Ave., on Thursdays at & p.m. this June, starting with a performance June 5.
Under the direction of Wayne Bovenschen, who is also OSU’s assistant director of bands, the band features more than 90 musicians from all ages, coming together to bring music to Stillwater each summer. This summer marks its 23rd consecutive concert season.
The band is an Oklahoma nonprofit corporation originally formed in 1906 before being reformed in 1992. It gives free concerts for the enjoyment of the players and the community. Young and old have enjoyed the band’s spirited music, and its popularity continues.
As a special guest, the June 26 concert will also feature the Gold Orchestra, a youth string orchestra from Manhattan, Kansas. David Littrell, a music professor at Kansas State University, founded the Gold Orchestra 25 years ago. Under his direction, it has performed at a variety of prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Rotary International Music Festival in Colchester, England.
The free concert series begins on Thursday, June 5, and continues each Thursday at 7 p.m. throughout the month (June 12, 19 and 26).
