New music ensemble to present free concert of premieres
The OSU Frontiers New Music Ensemble will present several selections written specifically for the ensemble by talented young composers for “A Night of Premieres” on Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seretean Center concert hall.
The ensemble will perform compositions by three Fellows of the Cortona Sessions for new music, a collaborative music project held each summer in Italy, as well as a work from OSU’s own Dr. Igor Karaca, among other selections.
The Cortona Sessions composers have become leaders in new music programs from around the world, according to the founder of the annual event, Dr. Michael Kirkendoll, who also serves as conductor for the ensemble, director of the OK New Music Project and assistant professor of piano at OSU.
The Frontiers New Music Ensemble and the OK New Music Project are dedicated to the exploration of contemporary music. The ensemble is comprised of OSU music majors and is the premiere ensemble of its kind in Oklahoma.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Kirkendoll by email at michael.kirkendoll@okstate.edu or phone (405) 744-8990. For more information about the Cortona Sessions, go to www.cortonasessions.com.
