Oklahoma State University hosts Miss OSU Pageant

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Fifteen students will showcase their many talents with song, dance and musical instruments, as well as their communication skills, as they compete for the title of Miss OSU on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. in the Seretean Center Concert Hall on the Oklahoma State University campus.

The women, between the ages of 17 to 25, will compete for five cash scholarships, ranging from $150 to $1,200, that will be awarded to the winner and four runner-ups. They will challenge each other for the crown in categories including personal interview, on-stage question, physical fitness in swimsuit, talent and evening wear.

In addition to the great mix of entertainment that will be on display, Brandon Mitts, the pageant’s executive director, believes the competition helps young women gain confidence and sharpen their leadership skills. “For instance, it takes real focus to develop a platform statement and support a cause you believe in. Also, each contestant’s personal interview, before a panel of judges, is similar to a job interview. It’s an intense experience, but everyone seems to learn something about preparation and managing priorities,” said Mitts, who also serves as Allied Arts and special events coordinator.

The reigning Miss Oklahoma, Alex Eppler, will serve as emcee for the night. She will perform the dance from her recent Top Ten appearance on Miss America. The reigning Miss OSU, Ali Brooks, will perform a song and be on-hand to crown the new Miss OSU.

Miss OSU tickets are general admission and are $10. They can be purchased by calling (405) 744-7509 or by visiting 058 Student Union. The ticket office will open at the Seretean Center at 6:30 p.m. the night of the performance.
