The Division of International Studies and Outreach recently named Deborah Osborne the director of the English Language Institute at Oklahoma State University.
Osborne comes to OSU from Parkville, Mo. where she served as the coordinator of English as an International Language Program at Park University.
Born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Osborne studied at Simon Fraser University earning her bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in linguistics. She also completed graduate course work in theoretical phonology at the Université de la Sorbonne, Paris, France.
“I’m genuinely excited to be in Oklahoma and at Oklahoma State University,” said Osborne. “The English Language Institute has well-established roots, and a great team. I look forward to expanding the program, integrating ELI students more closely into the fabric of the University, and gaining accreditation through CEA.”
The OSU English Language Institute is an intensive English program designed to help international students attain the English proficiency necessary to enter a college or university in the United States. It is also suitable for individuals who may wish to learn English for business or personal reasons. There is an average enrollment of ninety students from fifteen to twenty countries each semester. Programs can also be designed to meet the special needs of groups.
