OSU to hold Research Week February 17-21

Alexandra Cousteau, a National Geographic "emerging explorer," filmmaker and globally
recognized advocate on water issues, will be the keynote speaker for OSU Research
Week. Continuing the work of her renowned grandfather Jacques-Yves Cousteau and her
father Philippe Cousteau Sr., Alexandra Cousteau has mastered the remarkable storytelling
tradition handed down to her and has the unique ability to inspire audiences on the
weighty issues of policy, politics and action. She will present This Blue Planet:
Preserving & Sustaining a Healthy Earth February 19 at 7 pm in the Student Union Theater.
Her talk is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited so guests should
arrive early.
Other events scheduled for the week include:
* Success Starts with STEM, a panel presentation featuring Miss America 2014, Oklahoma
Teacher of the Year, a military officer, sports medicine trainer and creative learning
instructor. The panel will demonstrate the broad spectrum of success that can be
achieved through studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The
panel takes place February 20 at 7 pm in the Wes Watkins Center.
* Across the Divide art exhibition presenting the work of 18 Chinese artists who teach
studio art at universities across the U.S. These artists are involved in cross-disciplinary
experiments in visual arts as they create their interpretations of the impact of globalization.
The exhibit runs all week in the Gardiner Art Gallery.
* The annual OSU Research Symposium where graduate and undergraduate students from
OSU and other universities present their work. The symposium takes place February
19-21 on the 4th floor of the Student Union.
Research Week will feature many other worthwhile events and activities, including
presentations by Pinky Lai, chief designer for Porsche, and Ray Semko, a national
security expert famous for his one-of-a-kind security awareness briefings. A complete
