OSU Library to host best-selling author Scott Turow Nov. 14
Wednesday, October 15, 2014
Best-selling author Scott Turow will headline the annual H. Louise and H.E. “Ed” Cobb Speaker Series on Nov. 14 at Oklahoma State University. The Cobb series is the largest fundraising event for the Friends of the OSU Library and includes a dinner, lecture and book signing.
Turow is best known for his legal thrillers and is the author of nine best-selling works of fiction including his first novel “Presumed Innocent,” which was the basis of the 1990 Harrison Ford movie by the same name. He also has two non-fiction books: “One L,” considered must-read material for any new law student, and “Ultimate Punishment,” a reflection on the death penalty.
“For book lovers, this event is a rare opportunity to hear first-hand stories from successful authors,” Dean of Libraries Sheila Johnson said. “This year, Mr. Turow will be sharing his experience of having a book transformed into a film.”
The event will be held at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center. Tickets are on sale now, but seating is limited. Individual tickets are $100, and half the cost is a tax-deductible gift to the Friends of the OSU Library. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Call 405-744-7273 or visit www.library.okstate.edu/friends to purchase tickets.
“We strive to host a diverse range of authors for this event,” Johnson said. “Turow is our first author of courtroom dramas.”
The event is entering its 24th year. Past authors have included James Patterson, Nicholas Sparks, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ken Burns, S.E. Hinton, Doris Kearns Goodwin and Kurt Vonnegut.
The Friends of the OSU Library provide support for the University’s Libraries. The group focuses on services and resources that directly benefit students.
