Mozart classic set for Feb. 7-8
The Oklahoma State University Opera, Orchestra and Chamber Choir will present Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” (“The Marriage of Figaro”) on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, at 7:30 p.m. in the concert hall of the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.
“Many opera lovers rank this work from Wolfgang Mozart as their favorite. It has been delighting generations since it was first performed in 1786,” said April Goliver, co-director of opera studies at OSU. “Critics point to its bubbling overture, brilliantly crafted arias, superb plot and characterization, as well as wonderful dramatic situations in calling it a ‘masterpiece.’”
The opera will be stage directed by Steven Sanders, the orchestra led by Dr. Eric Garcia, and the choir under the direction of Dr. Z. Randall Stroope. Seventeen actors will perform the opera in a modern setting with the OSU Chamber Choir assisted by Anthony Holmes, Libby Fosmire, Andi Powers, and Kristen Valenski.
The cast includes Figaro played by Ivan Ley and Bernardo Medeiros; Susanna by Lydia Bechtel and Paige Martin; Countess Almaviva by Brianne Mathews and Anna Berry; Count Almaviva by Bill Sheets and Derrick Kaul; Cherubino by Judith Prenzlow and Brittany Wright; Marcellina by Renae Perry and Laura Watson, Bartolo by Dr. Allen Scott; Basilio and Don Curzio by Michael Kollmorgen; Barbarina by Carol Coleson and Tiffany Wright, and Antonio by John Lackey.
