OSU students prepare to go Into the Streets of Stillwater

Monday, November 3, 2014

The one-day, community volunteer project Into the Streets will be bigger than ever when it kicks off this Saturday, Nov. 8, at 9 a.m. on the library lawn at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

The annual event, which started with a small group of volunteers in 1998, has grown to more than 1,300 OSU students this year, which is the most in the history of the program. The students will serve the disabled, elderly and those in need in the city of Stillwater by pitching in on a wide range of projects from raking leaves to washing windows and cleaning flowerbeds at approximately 200 jobs sites. The service is free to community participants who apply.

Lindsey Harr, community development executive, says she’s excited about the diversity of this year’s projects and believes volunteers will enjoy the experience.“Into the Streets is an easy way to mobilize OSU students and it’s a great way for them to get involved and give back to a community that gives so much.”

Chris Barbee, executive director for the event, is ready to join the many volunteers as they make a positive impact.“We go out into Stillwater, actually get our boots in the mud and help those that can’t help themselves.”
