OSU Theatre Council to offer lively culture clash

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

The widow of a retired minister hires a young ballroom dance instructor for dance lessons and the culture clash begins in the OSU Theatre Council’s presentation of “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” with performances Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7 and 8, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2:30 p.m. in the Davis Theatre at Gundersen Hall.

Davell Turner and Charissa Prchal play Michael and Lily in a clash of cultures that starts with dance lessons.

Former Broadway dancer, Michael, breaks up the predictability of widow Lily Harrison’s life as they take turns chipping away at the other’s wall of protection and challenging one another’s definition of truth. See how they find compassion, friendship and a shared humanity (some language).

The play, written by Richard Alfieri, is the final directing project of OSU master’s candidate Susan Webb and includes students Davell Turner and Charissa Prchal in the lead roles of Michael and Lily. Performed with special permission from Samuel French, Inc., the production’s all-volunteer team includes two graduate students, several design undergrads, faculty advisers and new theatre majors.

Tickets are $7 at the door or in the theater office from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Nov. 3 – 7.

The 75-seat Jerry L. Davis Studio Theatre, located on the second floor of Gundersen Hall, is home to the studio season productions of the department. These shows are often student directed and designed. The Davis Theatre also hosts a number of acting and directing classes. The Davis Theatre is named after a much loved theatre professor, Dr. Jerry Davis, who was on faculty from the early 70s to the late 90s.
