OSU hosts concert featuring progressive pianist
Praised by The Los Angeles Times as having “irresistible verve, unpretentious directness, and fingers of steel,” pianist and composer Amir Khosrowpour will be the featured performer for the OK New Music Project concert on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.
“The concert will include works by living composers, including John Adams’ monumental ‘Phrygian Gates,’ as well as improvisations by Khosrowpour himself,” said Dr. Michael Kirkendoll, director of the OK New Music Project. “Amir is a New York City based pianist, improviser, and performance artist who is on the faculty of the Cortona Sessions for New Music, a summer festival for world premiere performances.”
Khosrowpour “seeks out what is new and vital and delivers it with passion, considerable drama, and poetry,” according to his website, which also describes a recent collaboration where he hung from the ceiling while playing one of his compositions in a fog-filled art gallery in Italy. The OK New Music Project is dedicated to bringing leading composers and new-music performers to Oklahoma State University for cutting-edge concerts, workshops, and collaborations. The concert is free and open to the public.
