Fragility, Mortality, and Emptiness: Rawhide as Sculptural Material
Art history graduate student Krystle Brewer will present “Fragility, Morality, and Emptiness: Rawhide as Sculptural Material” on Wednesdlay, Jan. 22, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in room 104 Bartlett Center for the Visual Arts. The talk is free and open to the public.
Brewer will look at the work of three contemporary artists who use the medium of rawhide to discuss issues of violence through the transparency and origin of the material. Though rooted in differing geographical and cultural locations, Doris Salcedo, Janine Antoni, and Sonya Kellier-Combs are united through their use of material as well as the fragility, mortality, and emptiness conveyed by the rawhide in their work.
Brewer’s talk is part of The Art History Roundtable, a series of discussions led by art historians at OSU. Each discussion will focus on the presenter's recent research and publication topics.
In conjunction with the Art and Graphic Design Faculty Exhibition, the Roundtable Series represents the excellence achieved by all members in the Department of Art, Graphic Design, and Art History at OSU.
