The Big Event to thank the Stillwater Community
Thursday, March 26, 2015
Students, faculty and staff at Oklahoma State University can say a big “thank you”
to the Stillwater community by doing odd jobs for residents and businesses during
The Big Event on Saturday, April 18.
Michele Crater, director of the Big Event, insists there is no better way for the Cowboy
family to express appreciation.
“The Big Event gives students an opportunity to create an attitude of thankfulness
on campus and in the community, while getting acquainted with the residents of Stillwater.”
The Big Event is currently OSU’s largest community service project boasting 1,700
volunteers and 174 job sites. This year’s goal is to have help from 2,000 volunteers.
It is easy for students to get involved as either an individual or as part of a group,
with one volunteer form to fill out. The Big Event executive team will place individuals
who apply with others who registered as individuals to form a team.
“The Big Event was my first college volunteer experience,” said Kaitlin Pham, an
OSU junior, who is participating for a third year. “You don’t realize how much of
an impact you make in someone’s life until you see the joy on that person’s face at
the end of the day.”
It is just as easy for Stillwater residents to request a visit to their home or place
of business. Job request forms can be found online, at the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce
or in the Stillwater NewsPress.
The Big Event is committed to helping anyone who requests, regardless of need. The
organization strives to say thank you to the entire community of Stillwater through
one big day of service.
