CASNR Freshmen in Transition program names new participants

Oklahoma State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources has selected 103 incoming freshmen from 20 states to participate in the Freshmen in Transition (FIT) program for the 2015-2016 school year.
FIT, a residential living-learning community, is designed to allow students to live in a suite-style dorm alongside other freshmen enrolled in CASNR. Participants are provided with opportunities and activities that foster independence, intellectual disposition to learning and interest in new experiences.
“FIT serves a platform for success by providing opportunities for networking, professional growth, personal wellness, servant leadership and expanding horizons,” said Katie Smithson, CASNR student development coordinator and director of FIT.
Eight FIT Student Academic Mentors (SAMs), former members of the program selected by an application process, will live in the CASNR Village and serve as mentors for participants.
“We are the first people the freshmen will meet on move-in day,” said Beth Theis, 2015-2016 FIT SAM. “We welcome them to campus with open arms and we are there for them to ensure they have a fun and successful first year. The FIT program helped make the transition to college not as scary as I imagined and I wanted to be there for this year’s freshmen just like the FIT SAMS were there for me.”
