Center for Local Government Technology hosts Federal Highway Administration Workshop in Stillwater

Monday, May 4, 2015

The Center for Local Government Technology (CLGT) is partnering with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to offer a “Road Diets” workshop for transportation professionals and the community at no cost from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 at CLGT’s Richmond Hills location.

Attendees will address safety issues for vehicles and pedestrians on four-lane, undivided streets and highways. The lack of left-turn lanes and crosswalks results in higher crash frequencies on these types of roadways.  This workshop is focused on providing low-cost, efficient safety solutions to this problem.

“A field trip to a location adjacent to the Oklahoma State University campus will be conducted as part of this workshop.  The purpose is to show attendees how the implementation of road diet principles would result in improved pedestrian safety along corridors of this type,” said Doug Wright, CLGT director.   CLGT has been working closely with Jason Peek, City of Stillwater Transportation Manager to facilitate this field trip and to look at locations in Stillwater where road diet practices have already been employed.

The event is open to the public and lunch will be provided. Registration is required.

  • Time and date: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015.
  • Audience: Public, specifically safety engineers, transportation planners, pedestrian and bicycle coordinators, Safe Routes to School coordinators, local public agency coordinators and transportation alternatives program managers.
