Graduates can still benefit from OSU Career Services

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

OSU Career Services offers many resources and guidance to students and graduates as they begin to maneuver through the job/internship search process.

Pam Ehlers, director of Career Services, is proud of the work the department does to aid students with their career path.

“Every student has an account from day one of admission to the university, Ehlers said.  “We let them know that we are here. Every freshman receives a free orange T-shirt with a Career Service logo during their first week on campus.  We want them to know that we are a resource for them from day one.”

In 2010, the Wall Street Journal named OSU Career Services in the top 45 in the nation and has received many other awards and accolades.

Post-graduate job information can be found at hireosugrads.com. This website provides information including how to begin searching for a job and interview and resume tips. The hire OSU system also offers a database of internships and full-time and part-time jobs.  Employers from all over the world post jobs in many different fields of study.

But Ehlers believes the most helpful resource is the career consultants. The consultants are located in the Career Services main office in the Student Union and in each of the colleges across campus. They provide one-on-one job coaching.

“Our tagline is admission to position,” Ehlers said.  “We guide students through the process from what is sometimes their first job search for a professional position post-graduation and throughout their career.  Our goal is to make certain students or graduates are well prepared for the job search.”

As an alumni of OSU, a graduate can use the hire system for free for one year after graduation or if they are a member of the OSU Alumni Association.

In addition to access to hireosugrads.com an alumni membership includes access to CareerShift, which gathers all public job postings across North America and some internationally.  For more information about becoming a member of the OSU Alumni Association visit orangeconnection.org
