Oklahoma State University students compete for opening act honors

Friday, March 6, 2015

With a variety of talent at Oklahoma State University, SUAB’s Cowboy Showcase Talent Show is sure to impress. Entertainers will show off many skills to become the newest talented OSU Cowboy star March 9 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater.

The Cowboy Showcase Talent Show is a demonstration and competition between selected performers fighting for first place. Before making it onto the Cowboy Showcase cast list, contestants performed their talent for the judges at auditions last month. Dancers, actors, musicians and other more unique talents participated in auditions February 23 and 26 in the Cowboy Underground.

Adam Smith, Student Union Programs coordinator, said he is excited to see the various talents brought to the stage at this year’s competition.

“The great thing about this event is that it’s students helping showcase the talents of other students,” Smith said. “We’ll see comedians, slam poets, singers, musicians and dancers.”

Prizes will be awarded to the top performers with the first place winner receiving an invitation to perform as the opening act for SUAB’s Spring Concert. This year’s concert will feature award-winning Nashville recording group, Gloriana. Student Union Activities Board’s Spring Concert will be March 26 at 8 p.m. on the Engineering South Lawn. Admission to the concert is free.

Student Union Activities Board was established as a student organization in 1951. Since then, SUAB has provided a wide range of programs and events for the entire OSU community. The purpose of SUAB is to stimulate, motivate, educate and involve the student body through creative and fun events. As a student group, they provide numerous social, educational and cultural activities and events throughout the year that are specifically tailored to students' interests.
