Orfeo Trio to offer classics at recital
Thursday, January 22, 2015
The Orfeo Trio will play a chamber music recital featuring works by Haydn, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Concert Hall of the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.
The trio, which is in residence at Wichita State University, includes American pianist Julie Bees, a professor of piano and director of the Konrad Wolff-Ilse Bing Chamber Music Endowment Award at WSU. Russians Evgeny Zvonnikov, violinist, and Leonid Shukaev, cellist, complete the trio. Zvonnikov and Shukaev are both members of the St. Petersburg String Quartet,an award-winning quartet in residence at Wichita State. Zvonnikov teaches violin and is associate concertmaster of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Shukaev is an assistant professor of cello at WSU.
Although the Orfeo Trio is made up of string players trained in Russia, and a pianist trained in the U.S., they have a common approach to making music that results in a joyful and spontaneous performance that’s a hit with audiences.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students and available from the Music Department Office, 132 Seretean Center, or online by going to http://marketplace.okstate.edu and clicking on the Department of Music tab.
