Tuesday, April 14, 2015
Meagan Kascsak, a senior from Crawford, Texas, has been recognized as the 2015 Student
Employee of the Year by Oklahoma State University. Kascsak was nominated for the honor
by Sherry Fletcher with the City of Stillwater, where Kascsak has been serving as
an intern with the City of Stillwater.
Kascsak received a $1,000 scholarship, presented by Dr. Lee Bird, vice president
of OSU Division of Student Affairs, during a special ceremony on Tuesday in the ConocoPhillips
OSU Alumni Center. She also won floor seats to a men’s basketball game, donated by
OSU Athletics, as well as a framed portrait.
"It's a real honor to be nominated," Kascsak said. "I am so thankful to my nominator,
Sherry Fletcher, not only for nominating me and giving me this opportunity, but also for
challenging me every day to be a better professional. Interning with the City of Stillwater
has really helped me define what I want to do with my career. I love Oklahoma State
and the City of Stillwater so much, this has really been a privilege."
On and off campus employers submitted a record number of 103 student nominees this
year, many of whom were also present at the special ceremony, which is held during
National Student Employment Week.
Four finalists and Kascsak from the group of 103 nominees will receive gift baskets
worth more than $250 in items from OSU and businesses in Stillwater.
The other four finalists were Grant Annan, from Stillwater, nominated by Jenny Fowler
of Eskimo Joe’s Clothes and Call Center; Christina Nelson, from Richardson, Texas,
nominated by Cathy Dickens of the OSU Student Union, Meeting and Conference Services;
Rachel Knoor, from Bixby, nominated by Naveen Kodadhala of The Ranchers Club and The
Atherton Hotel – Business and Hospitality Services; and Michael Gotwald, from Thorton,
Colorado, nominated by Lois Strate of the OSU Center for Local Government Technology.
University Dining Services also has two student employee winners who received certificates
for $1,250 each from US Foods representatives. The two UDS winners are Jessica Ruhl
of Oklahoma City, and Maci Majors of Edmond.
For the second year, OSU also selected a student employer of the year who invested
in hiring and training students. This year’s winner is Dearinger Printing and Trophy,
represented by Camaron Dearinger. Dearinger Printing and Trophy has hired many student
employees over the years and works diligently to help provide quality business cards
for students to use in networking opportunities with potential employers and colleagues.
