OSU Wakeboard Club Team Finishes 3rd at Nationals

The Oklahoma State University Wakeboard Team took third place in the USA Wakeboard Collegiate Nationals at Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area near Shreveport, La. It is the highest finish ever for the OSU club team, which was making its sixth appearance at the national tournament. 

OSU Wake trailed national champion Florida and Arizona State in the team standings.

The Cowboys registered their best finish at the national meet despite losing their top rider, senior Matt McCaleb, to a shoulder injury during the quarterfinal round. OSU receivedteam points in all of the seven divisions, but received enough points from the following divisions to move the team to the bronze medal place.  Team members finished as follows in their respective divisions: 

Garrett Black, senior from Skiatook, second in Wakeskate and third in Men’s B; Avery Sawyer, junior from Broken Arrow, third in Women’s B; Brooks Thompson, junior from Ada, fourth in Men’s C; and, Clay Dudding, sophomore from Amarillo, fourth in Men’s D. Rosie Philpott, junior from Los Gatos, Ca., rode in Women’s A and qualified for the finals, but did not place.

OSU Wakeboard Team/Club has been in existence as waterski and wakeboard since the 1970’s. They are currently focused mainly on wakeboarding and have competed in numerous tournaments over the past few years. The club averages about 30 members and rides its 22-foot Epic on Lake Carl Blackwell from March through October. Club advisor is Dr. Donna Lindenmeier, a faculty member in Recreation Management and the current officers are: Ryan Paxton, president; Clay Dudding, vice president; Avery Sawyer,treasurer; Hutch Todd, secretary; and Kristi Close, social chair.
