School of Entrepreneurship graduate program again recognized in Princeton Review rankings

Friday, November 13, 2015

Oklahoma State University’s School of Entrepreneurship is being recognized as one of the top schools in the nation for the fourth time since 2012, in rankings published by The Princeton Review and featured in Entrepreneur magazine.

The School of Entrepreneurship is ranked 23rd on the list of the Top 25 Graduate Schools for Entrepreneurship Studies for 2016, placing OSU at number 11 for public universities. The rankings are based on surveys sent to more than 2,000 schools from May to August 2015.

“We are very proud of the work of the faculty and staff of the School of Entrepreneurship whose hard work has resulted in the Princeton Review ranking,” said Ken Eastman, dean of the Spears School of Business. “The Spears School has an outstanding graduate program in entrepreneurship and it is gratifying to see this quality being recognized by others. Students looking for a great experience in entrepreneurship will find what they are looking for in our entrepreneurship program.”

The Spears School’s entrepreneurship program started in 2008 and quickly made a name for itself across the nation. The OSU School of Entrepreneurship debuted in the top 25 in the 2012 rankings and has continued to be honored for its outstanding educational opportunities.

“It’s very rewarding for our graduate program to be recognized by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine,” said Bruce Barringer, head of the OSU School of Entrepreneurship. “We have an excellent faculty and a great group of students. Many of our students aspire to own businesses and are actively working on their business startups. Others will take what they learned in our program and help the companies they work for innovate and grow. We’re confident that our program will continue to move forward and climb in the rankings.”

The Princeton Review chooses the schools based on a wide range of institutional data it evaluates for this project. Schools are asked about the levels of their commitment to entrepreneurship inside and outside the classroom, the percentage of their faculty, students, and alumni actively and successfully involved in entrepreneurial endeavors, the number of their mentorship programs, and their funding for scholarships and grants for entrepreneurial studies and projects.

The OSU entrepreneurship program has received national recognition from several organizations in recent years for its excellence in a number of areas:

  • Student Startup Central honored as an Incubator of the Year at the 2014 Small Business Awards in Oklahoma City (The Journal Record);

  • The Master’s of Entrepreneurship online program is No. 1 in the nation in the rankings of the 20 Best Online MBA Entrepreneurship Program (TheBestSchools.org);

  • The Spears School’s entrepreneurship program tied for No. 22 in the 2014 rankings of the nation’s top 25 business schools for entrepreneurship (U.S. News and World Report);

  • The 2013 National Model Ph.D. Program Award, given annually to one university in the nation (United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship);

  • The Riata Center for Entrepreneurship, the school’s outreach program, was the 2012 recipient of the NASDAQ Center of Entrepreneurship Excellence Award (Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers);

  • The 2012 National Model Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program Award, given annually to one university in the United States (United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship).

The Princeton Review has reported these lists annually since 2006 in partnership with Entrepreneur Media Inc., publisher of Entrepreneur magazine. The 60-question survey looked at each school’s commitment to entrepreneurship education inside and outside the classroom. More than three-dozen data points were analyzed for the rankings. Among them were the percentage of faculty, students and alumni actively and successfully involved in entrepreneurial endeavors, the number and reach of mentorship programs, and funding for scholarships and grants for entrepreneurial studies and projects.
