Trout Fishing at Lake Carl Blackwell

Friday, November 13, 2015

It is trout season at Lake Carl Blackwell. Hundreds of pounds of trout began arriving November 1, at what has become known as the Trout Pond at Lake Carl Blackwell. The pond sits adjacent to Pine Grove Campground and has become a big hit with trout fishing enthusiasts. The trout will become established this first month (November) in the pond, as well as new truck loads of trout arrive every two weeks until March 2016 when the water temperature begins to climb upwards. In past years trout have been caught in the pond up into the month of April.

A daily park permit of $5 or an annual park pass must be displayed in every vehicle as well as a daily trout tag of $5 per person must be kept with each person at all times while trout fishing. State fishing license and rules do apply. First daily trout tag must be purchased at the Park Office, second tag may be purchased at our Orange Honor Fee Box located at the Trout Pond.

Daily Vehicle permits and trout tags are available at the Park Office from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. Children under 8 years of age can fish for trout at no charge as long as they are accompanied by a tag purchasing adult. Trout caught by the child does apply to the adults trout tag limit of three trout per tag. Anglers may purchase a total of two trout tags per day each tag allows them to catch three fish. Oklahoma State Limit of six trout per day is enforced.

Lake Carl Blackwell has yet another great cold weather fishing option available to those that like to fish for other types of fish such as Crappie, Saugeye, Catfish & Hybrids and that is the heated indoor fishing dock located off the Jetty just north of the Lake Side Store. These fish congregate in the natural and manmade structures that have been placed under and around the dock creating excellent year round fish habitat. This habitat attracts and holds fish in the general area of the dock and fishing has been reported as being good year round at that location.

For more information about the fishing opportunities at Lake Carl Blackwell please contact the Park Office at 405-372-5157. Lake Carl Blackwell is located a short 7 miles west of Stillwater Oklahoma on Highway 51.
