Madison Harry awarded Fulbright to teach in Poland

Madison Harry has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship that will take her to Poland for the 2016-2017 academic year. The prestigious program places recent American graduates in schools around the world where they act as an ambassador for the United States and help improve foreign students’ English language abilities.

Harry, a graduate of Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City, is scheduled to graduate from Oklahoma State University in May with a secondary education degree in social studies with emphasis in world history and geography. She has minored in history and leadership.

"I was overjoyed when I found out that I was chosen to be an English teaching assistant. I feel incredibly lucky that I will soon realize my dream to live and teach abroad," Harry said. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as an educator and cultural ambassador with the Fulbright Commission in Poland. I stand behind the Fulbright's mission to foster international relationships and understanding. This experience will undoubtedly contribute to my future success as an educator when I return to the United States.”

Harry, a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, has been actively involved in several organizations and projects throughout her time at OSU, including the Student Government Association Senate, SGA Freshman Representative Council, and College of Education Student Council. She co-founded EdCamp Stillwater, which fosters mentorship and encourages relevant discussion for those interested in the field of education. She was also involved in an AmeriCorps literacy camp for elementary schools in low-income neighborhoods, known as Project Transformation Oklahoma.
