The Oklahoma State University Mortar Board chapter, Achafoa, received a Gold Torch award at the Mortar Board National Conference this summer in Indianapolis. Chapter vice president Rachel Davis accepted the award, which was presented to 36 national chapters this year.
Mortar Board is national honor society for college seniors that recognizes superior scholastic ability, outstanding leadership and dedicated service to the community. The national distinction is awarded annually to the chapters that best exemplify these qualities.
Six young women founded OSU’s chapter in 1930 and named it Achafoa, which is a Choctaw word for “a few rare and precious ones.”
