Oklahoma State students take the stage for charity

OSU spring campus

Members of the Greek community at Oklahoma State University will take the stage to showcase their musical talents at Spring Sing April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Since 1966, Spring Sing has featured fraternity and sorority pairings in an OSU vocal concert in which students prepare choreographed singing performances. The acts are professionally judged based on vocals, choreography, theme, costumes and overall entertainment value.

In 2005, Spring Sing introduced a charitable element into its program. A portion of the proceeds from the Spring Sing show now benefits Coaches vs. Cancer. Last year, approximately $15,000 was raised for this organization with the goal of raising $20,000 at this year’s performance.

"Spring Sing is a great way to bring the campus together and showcase the talent of OSU students," Millie Van Horn, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs graduate teaching assistant, said. "With proceeds supporting Coaches vs. Cancer, the community is able to raise money while enjoying the show."

This year’s show will include 13 group acts each following their own unique theme and celebrating the 50th anniversary of Spring Sing. Even though each cast has their own unique theme, they must incorporate one song from the Billboard Top 100 Hits from the year 1966, the inaugural year of Spring Sing. At the end of the last show, judges will tally the scores and awards will be presented to the top three group acts.

Tickets for Spring Sing can be purchased in advance for $10 at okstate.showclix.com or for $12 the evening of the performance at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

This is the 50th year of OSU students serving others through their talents by participating in the show. Spring Sing is sponsored by the Oklahoma State University Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. An executive team and steering members organized and planned all aspects of Spring Sing.
