Oklahoma State University receives grant to support underrepresented students

Oklahoma State University has received a $1.2 million Talent Search grant from the U.S. Department of Education that will help prepare underrepresented, first-generation students in Oklahoma for entrance and success in higher education.

Talent Search is part of the TRIO programs established by President Johnson through the Educational Opportunity Act of 1964 to combat the War on Poverty. The program serves students in grades 6-12. Services include: tutoring, financial literacy, college admissions requirements, assistance in applying for federal aid and scholarships, and informational workshops for parents.

The grant to OSU will serve 500 students from Billings, Blackwell, Carney, Cushing, Davenport, Guthrie, Morrison, and Ripley.

The grant is administered by OSU’s Division of Institutional Diversity, which also includes TRIO programs Upward Bound and Student Support Services.
