OSU Housing and Residential Life Leaders Honored

Two Oklahoma State University Housing and Residential Life student leaders, Jared Kimbrell and Kaylee Boyce, were honored for their achievements at the 2016 National Residence Hall Honorary, held June 24-26 at the University of Delaware. The honorary was created by the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) to recognize student leaders who go above and beyond in their respective housing and residential life communities.

Kimbrell, who served as director of administration and finance for OSU’s Residential Hall Association (RHA) in 2015-2016, received the NACURH Student of the Year award, which recognizes outstanding service to NACURH, academic success and achievement by an individual who has been directly affiliated with the organization as a residential student.

“Res Life has been the bulk of my extracurricular activities at OSU and I wouldn't have it any other way,” said Kimbrell, a junior chemical engineering major from Owasso, Oklahoma.

Kimbrell will serve as Oklahoma State’s NRHH president for the 2016-2017 academic term, using the leadership skills he gained in Housing and Residential Life to make a difference in his community.

“Res Life was my first introduction to leadership in college through my hall's community council and it made me into the leader I have become today,” Kimbrell said.  “With my involvement in RHA and NRHH this past year, I was able to develop incredible skills and friendships.”

Oklahoma State NRHH president for 2015-2016, Kaylee Boyce, received the NRHH Diamond Award, which recognizes outstanding achievements and/or collaborations linking members of their chapter to their campus community and other college and university NRHH chapters across the country.

“As a whole, OSU Residential Life shaped me to be a leader,” said Boyce, a senior accounting major from Duncan, Oklahoma. “In my other organizations, I would regularly volunteer for leadership positions, but no one wanted to give me a chance because I was shy.  In Residential Life, I was given a chance.  Being recognized on a campus, regional and national level proved to others as well as myself that I was worth the chance.”

Boyce and Kimbrell will remain active in the OSU Housing and Residential Life community during the 2016-2017 school year.
