OSU Professor Riley Dunlap Elected Member of Sociology’s Honor Society

Friday, July 8, 2016

Riley Dunlap

Riley E. Dunlap, Regents Professor of Sociology and Dresser Professor, has been elected to membership in the Sociological Research Association (SRA).  The SRA is an honorary association created in 1936 to recognize and promote excellence in sociological research. It is comprised of more than 400 leading members of the sociological research community.

Dunlap becomes the second OSU sociologist in this prestigious body, joining Provost Gary Sandefur.

“Election to the Sociological Research Association is based on a career of outstanding contributions to sociological research,” Sandefur said.  “Professor Dunlap has exceeded by far what one needs to accomplish to be elected to membership.  He is one of the founders of the sociological study of the climate and environment and their relationship with human behavior and one of the leading environmental sociologists in the world.  His election is a credit not only to him, but to his colleagues in the Department of Sociology and Oklahoma State University.”

Dunlap was recently appointed to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s new Advisory Committee for the Sustained National Climate Assessment, a congressionally-mandated assessment of climate change and its implications, issued every four years.  In 2015, the American Sociological Association honored Dunlap for his work in chairing the ASA Task Force on Sociology and Global Climate Change.
