OSU’s Outdoor Adventure offers a variety of adventurous options
Thursday, February 4, 2016
OSU students, faculty and staff can choose from a variety of adventurous options throughout the year, from exploring outside to climbing inside, thanks to the Outdoor Adventure programs and trips.
Nathan Diekelman, coordinator for Outdoor Adventure, invites everyone to get involved in the many opportunities and new options that are always available.
“Several things are unique about the programs that Outdoor Adventure offers,” Diekelman said. “We don’t really deal in competitive sports or events and that keeps the atmosphere very social and positive for all involved. For example, a new rock climber and an experienced rock climber can climb different routes, but they can do that all day together.”
There are many trips that students can take year round. Some of these trips are in Oklahoma and some are out of state. One of the most popular trips is the spring break trip.
“Students like our ski trip because it is fun,” Diekelman said. “The other big trip for Outdoor Adventure is our spring break trip. We usually try to visit some of the big national parks. This year, we are going to three of the mighty five parks in Utah: Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reed National Parks. These trips are popular because of their destination.”
Outdoor Adventure has been giving students a chance to explore their more adventurous side since its inception in the late 1970s. The program offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including extensive high and low element activities at Camp Redlands.
According to the Outdoor Adventure website, the program “provides opportunities for fun, adventure, education and excitement.” There is a strong emphasis on adventure, environmental awareness, personal development, safety training and wilderness travel. There is something for the whole community.
