Monday, May 2, 2016
Science Café OSU is offering a community program on May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library. The program consists of a film screening and panel discussion about the documentary “Nature vs. Nature: The Animal Victims of the May 2013 Oklahoma Tornadoes.”
“'Nature vs. Nature' is a timely film that increases awareness of how an Oklahoma natural disaster impacted animals and of the community rescue efforts that ensued,” said Karen Neurohr, OSU Library professor and Science Café coordinator. “The film has broad appeal for animal lovers, emergency medical personnel, filmmakers and the community.”
The film has received two Telly Awards, one for the documentary itself and one for the writing.
After the film screening, special guest Jenifer Reynolds, producer of the film and host of “Discover Oklahoma,” will lead a panel discussion with Center for Veterinary Health Sciences faculty and staff: Jean Sander, Ph.D., dean of CVHS; Todd Holbrook, Ph.D., equine medicine specialist; Danielle Dugat, Ph.D., small animal surgeon; and Zoe Midyett of Red Earth Feed and Tack in Oklahoma City. The Payne County Animal Response Team will have a display table at the event. The panelists will comment on the film and take audience questions.
This Science Cafe is sponsored by the OSU Library, OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, OSU Vice President for Research, OSU Chapter of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, and Stillwater Public Library with program partners: Payne County Animal Response Team, Preveterinary Medicine Club, and OSU Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
