'The Journal Record' names Burns Hargis Legacy Award recipient

Tuesday, March 3, 2020

"The Journal Record" has awarded OSU President Burns Hargis this year’s Legacy Award.

Hargis will be presented the award at the newspaper's annual Oklahoma’s Most Admired CEOs & Financial Stewardship Awards on April 27 at Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City.

The award, now in its third year, recognizes individuals who are making an impact on Oklahoma through their work. According to "The Journal Record", the Legacy Award selection committee said Hargis, who has served as OSU president since 2008 and oversees one of the nation’s most comprehensive land-grant university systems, is a shining example of leadership.

In its announcement, "The Journal Record" notes that during his time as president Hargis has facilitated exceptional increases in enrollment and fundraising rates, exceeding the $1 billion Branding Success goal almost two years ahead of schedule. OSU has also added 81,000 new donors and raised $2 billion in private support while Hargis has been president.

In 2009, Hargis was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
