The Student Art Alliance at Oklahoma State University has installed seven Little Free Libraries around Stillwater for the community. The group hopes that these libraries will increase the accessibility to literacy.
When the pandemic closed libraries and restricted other means for the community to access books, the Student Art Alliance stepped up. During its annual summer meeting, the idea for these libraries emerged with a focus on literacy.
“We are excited to make books more accessible to the Stillwater community,” said Kayla Loper, manager of arts, culture and entertainment with the Student Art Alliance. “We hope that the creative designs of each library and the opportunity to give and take free books inspire our community to read together and grow together.”
To ensure that the libraries stay full, the Students Art Alliance conducted a book drive in the spring and is planning to continue organizing drives to ensure the libraries are well stocked.
Each little library contains a diverse range of books to encourage readers to pick up something they have never read before. Community members are free to take or leave a book at any of the locations.
Along with the diversity in content, each little library has a unique look to them. Students involved in the Students Arts Alliance had the creative liberty to paint a little library.

-Stillwater Housing Authority (807 S. Lowry St.)
