Oklahoma State University's Department of Computer Science has been awarded 2023 GenCyber Grant to hold the GenCyber Cowboy Teacher Cybersecurity Academy on OSU-Stillwater campus in 2024.

The program will provide a comprehensive learning experience based on the GenCyber cybersecurity concepts, ethics, cybersecurity careers, online safety and help teachers with the preparation of cybersecurity lesson plans. In addition, the program curriculum is designed based upon the ‘‘Oklahoma K-12 Academic Standard for Computer Science’’ to remove barriers that keep teachers from translating their experiences and knowledge into classroom instruction.

“This program will provide essential foundational knowledge and support to Oklahoma teachers, so our children will be better prepared to thrive in a digital world," said Dr. Roger Mailler, head of computer science. "We are proud that OSU and specifically our department can host the event and look forward to doing additional events in the future.”

The program is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 24-28, 2024. The program is completely free to participants, and no previous cybersecurity knowledge is required. The participant will receive $900 stipend after successfully completing the week-long program. In addition, free on-campus housing is available for teachers who come from far and wide to participate in the program. The GenCyber program is supported by the National Security Agency and National Science Foundation.
