Lights on Stillwater — an annual fundraising event during Welcome Week — had its 2023 iteration Wednesday on the north side of Boone Pickens Stadium.

Proceeds went to the Student STACHE Network at Oklahoma State University.

Students can meet new friends, have fun, and raise money and food for fellow classmates at the event. Student organizations come to interact with students new and old to give everyone a sample of what OSU’s clubs can offer, while Stillwater businesses set up booths to highlight what’s available in town.

The OSU Student Government Association hosts Lights on Stillwater every year. SGA Vice President Hilary Albrecht led the event this year and said the event is extremely helpful for new students.

"I recommend it for all ages," Albrecht said. "I think it’s kind of geared toward freshmen because they’re new to the university, and we’re offering them this time to meet with student orgs and see if there’s anything they’re interested in. But even people looking for a job can go see what businesses are there and what they offer."

Lights on Stillwater also provides free goodies, giveaways and coupons. Albrecht said it is always a busy event with more than 4,000 students attending in recent years.

Megan Mosser, a transfer student, said Lights on Stillwater was a unique event that her last school didn’t have, so she was excited to get out and be social.

"All of the students are happy, nice and self-sacrificing," Mosser said. "Everyone is willing to give you stuff and just talk to you. And even if you’re not willing to be a part of what they’re advocating for, they still love to get to know you."
