Oklahoma State University’s Enterprise Information Technology team announced that starting Oct. 1, all OSU Zoom accounts will be able to access the new Zoom AI Companion.
Zoom initially launched its AI Companion tool in 2023, which helps users collaborate and communicate more efficiently. The AI tool can help to draft emails and chat messages, and summarize meetings to help students and staff recall conversations.
“We are excited to support this new feature that Zoom is rolling out,” said Byron Hook, deputy director of cloud and infrastructure services. “Virtual meetings are used now more than ever. We are confident this new feature will improve the experiences for faculty, staff and students.”
Once enabled, the new feature will appear as an option for all users when in Zoom meetings.
This is part of Enterprise IT’s ongoing efforts to provide digital tools that make life easier for faculty, staff and students in the OSU/A&M system. From being able to send emails and connect to the internet, to the infrastructure that supports the learning experiences on campus and online, digital technology is vital to how campus functions and Enterprise IT is focused on supporting it.
One feature included in the new tool is the meeting coach, which gives speakers metrics about their talk-listen ratio, talk speed, filler words and their shortest and longest talking points. Hosts and participants can view their own metrics; the administrator can view them all.
Another feature is the AI creation of meeting details based on the audio transcript. The details will be highlighted, and hosts can modify the highlighted sections and generate a video summary based on them.
