DeFreitas Awarded Grant from OCAST

Exercise physiology assistant professor Jason DeFreitas has received a grant from the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology, the state’s technology-based economic development agency. DeFreitas’ research project examines how muscle spindle and human motor function are impacted by aging.

A total of 31 projects were chosen for funding from higher education institutions in Oklahoma, including nine faculty from OSU. In total, OCAST awarded $4.1 million for the projects.

Research funded by OCAST investigates causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human diseases and disabilities and facilitates the development of innovative health care products and services. OCAST’s Health Research program is designed to: (1) strengthen the competitiveness of Oklahoma health researchers for national research funds; (2) recruit and retain outstanding health research scientists to the state; (3) improve health care for Oklahomans; and (4) strengthen the state’s health care industry.
