Clinic offers low-cost, high-quality services, including play therapy for children
The OSU Counseling and Counseling Psychology Clinic offers a variety of confidential counseling and intervention services for OSU students, staff, and faculty, and to members of the surrounding community. Counselors are trained to provide individual, relationship, group, family, and child therapy. Clinic counselors are equipped to provide support to clients suffering from depression, anxiety, relationship distress, family conflicts, life transitions such as moving or divorce, eating disorders, trauma, pain, substance abuse, grief and loss, behavior disorders, and social or friendship concerns. Conveniently located in the Public Information Office Building on Monroe Street just north of University on the OSU Stillwater campus, the clinic is a training clinic for Counseling Psychology Doctoral Students. Each graduate-level student counselor is supervised by highly skilled faculty from the counseling psychology program located within the School of Applied Health and Educational Psychology in the College of Education.
All clients receive a free, initial appointment. Community members’ fees are determined on a sliding scale. OSU students, staff, and faculty receive four free additional sessions after the initial appointment and are then charged $10 per session. There is no maximum number of sessions and fees may be negotiable depending on each individual’s needs.
In addition to traditional counseling services for adolescents and adults, counselors are trained in play therapy. The clinic has a play therapy room equipped with a wide range of therapeutic activities for nearly every age and interest. Most items in the play therapy room are also available for check out to community members and to OSU students, staff, and faculty. Individuals do not have to be currently in counseling to check out these materials. Check out works much like a library system where patrons pay a flat $25 fee per year and are able to keep items for two weeks at a time. Items available for check out include parenting books, self-help books, picture books, games, puppets, mindfulness and relaxation tools, and many other toys and activities.
Assessment services are also offered in the clinic for both psychological and academic testing. Appointments for either counseling or assessment can be made by calling (405) 744-6980.
