Romans named to lead OSU College of Education

Oklahoma State University has named Dr. John S.C. Romans as Dean of the College of Education, pending approval by the OSU/A&M Board of Regents at its April 22 meeting.
Romans is currently serving as Professor and Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Administrative Support. He will transition into the dean’s position on or after April 25, following formal approval by the OSU/A&M Board.
“The search and screening process for dean included a rigorous review of applicants,” said Gary Sandefur, OSU Provost and Senior Vice President. “Dr. Romans received strong support from the many individuals involved in the interview process. I am confident we succeeded in identifying the individual best suited to lead the OSU College of Education.”
Romans holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas, a Masters degree in Counseling from the University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Iowa State University. He is a Professor in the Counseling and Counseling Psychology program area, and he has previously served as Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, Outreach and Research and as Head of the School of Applied Health and Educational Psychology.
He has served in a variety of other administrative roles during his tenure at OSU including Counseling Area Coordinator, Associate School Head, and Associate Dean. His research activities are currently centered around the Building Resilient Communities project.
He serves as the team leader for this interdisciplinary group of faculty, students and community members tackling challenges facing high need communities. Dr. Romans' other research interests include stalking and interpersonal violence, and college student counseling interventions.
