Babajide Ojo receives 2017 Outstanding PhD Student Award

Nutritional sciences doctoral student Babajide Ojo is the 2017 College of Human Sciences Outstanding Graduate Student Award at the Ph.D. Level.

Ojo’s main research interest is the impact of diet on gut microbiome and its clinical outcomes. The result of his master’s thesis was submitted to the Journal of Nutrition and was the featured article in August 2016. He is continuing this area of research for his Ph.D. dissertation.

In addition to the Ph.D. in nutritional sciences, Ojo is pursuing a graduate certificate in bioinformatics. His academic excellence was recognized when he received the 2016 OSU Foundation Distinguished Graduate Fellowship.

Ojo’s research was chosen as American Society of Nutrition’s award for Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science in 2015, and he was chosen as “Top 5 Young Minority Investigator” by the society in 2016.

He also received first place for his poster at the annual Harold Hamm Diabetes Conference held in Oklahoma City in October 2016.

His advisor Dr. Edralin Lucas noted that Ojo is not only one of the most outstanding graduate students she has mentored, but he is a good citizen and has mentored undergraduates in the lab, including a Niblack Scholar and a Freshman Research Scholar. He is also involved in leadership and service activities, including representing NSCI as a Graduate College Ambassador.
