DHM students win big

Design, housing and merchandising students swept the Fashion Group International Scholarship Competition in Dallas. Seniors Chance Payne and Jessica Knapp and junior Rachel Baker won first, second and third respectively in the Fashion Merchandising Portfolio Competition.
Each student prepared a digital portfolio using InDesign software of work completed in DHM 2423 Technology and Visual Communication and DHM 3853 Visual Merchandising. The students also included examples of their own freelance styling or visual merchandising industry work. A major component of the refereeing process was a narrative written by the student explaining how the contents of their portfolio supported their career aspirations.
“OSU was the only university in Oklahoma to compete against the major Texas universities in this category,” Dr. Cosette Armstrong, assistant professor, said. “This competition provides strong affirmation that our students are competitive and prepared for a broad range of visual merchandising, styling and communication career opportunities.”
The FGI of Dallas Scholarship Competition created a foundation to award scholarships for college and high school students studying fashion and merchandising. The Scholarship Competition is a forum for students to earn cash scholarships and unique experiences.
