Tuesday, May 29, 2018

Oklahoma State University Regents Professor Laura Hubbs-Tait is the recipient of the Society for Research in Human Development (SRHD) 2018 Outstanding Mentor Award.

Dr. Hubbs-TaitHubbs-Tait teaches in the College of Human Sciences’ Department of Human Development and Family Science. Her current research and extension efforts are focused broadly on how parenting enhances children’s resilience, competence and health.

Nominations for the SRHD Mentor Award were solicited from the body of members. The award is given to a member who exemplifies the role of mentor in the field and the mission of supporting human development by stimulating research, encouraging cooperation among professionals, and promoting application of research findings.

Hubbs-Tait was presented with the award during the SRHD’s annual conference in Plano, Texas, and the organization’s leadership cited her passion for students, young researchers and communities she reaches through her work.

“Although we had many well-deserving nominations for the SRHD Outstanding Mentor Award, Laura was chosen as the recipient because of her dedication to mentorship through all of her roles,” SRHD President Julie Rutledge said.  “She is a sounding board for so many students and colleagues on topics from all areas of her purview as an academic – teaching, research, and service. But, her mentorship includes a deep care and concern for her mentees in their personal lives as well. It was a distinct honor to be part of giving this award to Laura because I know how much she means to so many.”
