Human Sciences welcomes Lynn Boorady as Design, Housing and Merchandising department head

Beginning July 1, Dr. Lynn Boorady is the new design, housing and merchandising department head in the College of Human Sciences. Boorady succeeds Dr. Jane Swinney, who retired July 1 after leading the department since June 2016.

Boorady, a full professor, comes to OSU from the State University of New York College at Buffalo (SUNY – Buffalo State), where she served as chair of fashion and textile technology since September 2007. In total, Boorady has 25 years of higher education experience. Her academic appointments include serving as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri from 2005-2010. 

Boorady earned her Ph.D. in Textile and Apparel Management with a minor in Information Technology from the University of Missouri in 2005. She also holds an M.P.S. in Textiles and Apparel from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh. 

Boorady is currently the vice president of operations for the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA). She is also the recipient of numerous teaching honors. While at SUNY-Buffalo State, she was presented the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2018), a system-level award, and the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2016). The ITAA also honored her with its teaching excellence award in 2017. 

The OSU Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising is housed in the College of Human Sciences and offers bachelor’s and master’s degree options in apparel design and production, interior design and merchandising as well as a multidisciplinary Ph.D.
